Ayodhya: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat led the ‘Dhwajarohan Utsav’ on Tuesday by lifting a specially‑designed saffron flag over the newly‑completed Ram Janmabhoomi Temple.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath joined the ceremony, underscoring its deep spiritual resonance for devotees nationwide.
The flag, measuring 22 feet long by 11 feet wide, was crafted by a parachute expert from Ahmedabad. Weighing between 2 and 3 kg, its sturdy weave can withstand strong winds at high elevations.
Its design features the Sun, symbolizing Lord Rama’s Suryavanshi lineage, a depiction of the Kovidara tree, and the sacred Om—its saffron hue evoking fire, sunrise, sacrifice, and devotion.
This moment marks another step in Ayodhya’s cultural revival, with leaders stressing that the flag embodies both faith and India’s enduring civilizational spirit while also celebrating the temple’s completion.
Earlier in the day, Modi and Bhagwat offered prayers at Shri Ram Darbar Garbh Grah and Shri Ram Lalla amid Vedic chanting. The Darbar houses a stunning idol of Lord Ram in royal regalia, flanked by figures of Sita, Lakshman, Bharat, Shatrughan, and Hanuman, all arranged to portray the divine court’s grandeur.
On arrival, Modi was welcomed enthusiastically at the Saket College helipad; Chief Minister Adityanath greeted him there before the Prime Minister proceeded to the temple complex, leading a vibrant procession.
He also prayed at the Sapt Mandir inside the sprawling Ram Temple complex, which honors sages such as Maharishi Vashistha, Maharishi Vishwamitra, Maharishi Agastya, Maharishi Valmiki, Goddess Ahalya, Nishadraj Guha, and Mata Shabari.
These seven shrines commemorate the revered mentors, devotees, and allies instrumental in Lord Ram’s journey, underscoring their lasting significance. Later, Modi visited Sheshavtar Mandir and Mata Annapurna Mandir to offer his prayers.
