Prime Minister Narendra Modi kicked off a major push for clean energy in Assam on Sunday by inaugurating the Assam Bioethanol Plant and laying the foundation stone for a new polypropylene plant at Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) in Golaghat. These steps aim to cut down on fossil fuels and boost India’s green energy drive.
During his visit, PM Modi shared how much he loves the Northeast. “I’ve spent the last two days here, and every time I come, the people shower me with so much warmth and affection,” he said with a smile, thanking everyone for making him feel right at home in this part of Assam.
He called September 14 a game-changer for a developed Assam and a stronger India. In a big announcement, PM Modi revealed that projects worth around Rs 18,000 crore are now headed to the state. Earlier that day in Darrang, he had already laid the groundwork for key connectivity and health projects. Now, at NRL, he’s focusing on energy security to speed up Assam’s growth.
Assam plays a huge role in India’s energy story, PM Modi pointed out. The petroleum products from here fuel the nation’s progress, and the government wants to take this strength even further. Before heading to the main event, he inaugurated a cutting-edge bio-ethanol plant that turns bamboo into fuel—a proud moment for Assam’s farmers and its eco-friendly future.
Alongside that, the new polypropylene plant will spark industrial growth, create jobs for the youth, and open doors for locals. “These initiatives will transform lives and build a brighter tomorrow,” PM Modi said, congratulating everyone involved.
Shifting to the bigger picture, PM Modi highlighted India’s rise as the world’s fastest-growing major economy. With that boom comes higher demand for electricity, gas, and fuel. For years, India relied heavily on imports, shelling out lakhs of crores to other countries and boosting their jobs instead of ours. “We had to change that,” he stressed.
Now, India is on the road to energy self-reliance. The country is hunting for new crude oil and gas reserves at home while ramping up green energy efforts. Remember his Red Fort speech? PM Modi brought up the ‘Samudra Manthan’ initiative to explore deep-sea treasures. Experts believe India’s oceans hold massive oil and gas reserves, and the National Deepwater Exploration Mission will tap into them for national growth.
These moves show India’s commitment to sustainable energy, reducing fossil fuel dependence, and powering a self-sufficient future. Assam’s new projects are a perfect example of how the Northeast is leading the charge.
