PM Modi to inaugurate two major projects in Assam on Dec 21

Guwahati – The Assam Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, told followers on X that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is poised to present the state with two big projects during his next visit. “Leaving no stone unturned to ensure Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi Ji’s visit is successful and seamless, as he is set to gift Assam two major initiatives – the Guwahati Airport and Namrup Ammonia‑Urea Plant,” he wrote.
Modi is scheduled to arrive in Naharkatia on 21 December to lay the foundation stone for a new urea plant at the Namrup Fertiliser Facility. With an anticipated annual output of 1.2 million metric tonnes, the factory is being touted as one of the most crucial fertilizer upgrades for the Northeast in recent years. Sarma said the completed unit would not only boost domestic urea supplies but also spark job creation and spur supporting industries across upper Assam. The state government expects construction to wrap up in about three years.
Before the high‑profile visit, Sarma walked through the venue to assess completion progress and security arrangements, holding deep‑talks with senior police officers, district administrators, and the logistics and event‑management teams. He also convened a meeting with top state officials, including Chief Secretary Ravi Kota, to ensure smooth inter‑departmental coordination ahead of the PM’s agenda. Ministers Piyush Hazarika, Prashant Phukan, and Naharkatia MLA Tarang Gogoi joined him in the inspection.
According to early schedules, Modi will address a public meeting at the site at 10:30 a.m. on 21 December, where he is expected to highlight the significance of the new fertilizer project and reaffirm the Centre’s commitment to strengthening industry and agriculture in the Northeast.
