PM Modi’s Bihar mahila outreach: From affectionate conversation to spirit of celebration

Prime Minister Narendra Modi connected with women across Bihar during the launch of the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana on Thursday. Speaking via video conference, he shared heartfelt moments with beneficiaries who called him “Bhaiya” and gushed about how the scheme is fueling their dreams.

Modi transferred Rs 10,000 directly into the bank accounts of 75 lakh women through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), boosting women’s empowerment in Bihar. These women entrepreneurs opened up about their journeys, crediting government initiatives for transforming their lives.

Take Reeta Devi from Bhojpur, who kicked off her poultry business in 2015. “My life has changed completely,” she told Modi. “With this Rs 10,000, I’ll buy 100 more chickens. Egg demand spikes in winter, so my income will grow.” She also praised schemes like PM Awas Yojana for a solid home and toilets, Ujjwala Yojana for clean cooking gas instead of smoky fuels, and Ayushman Bharat for free medical care. “We even get 125 units of free electricity and clean water—it’s all made a huge difference.”

In Gaya, Noorjahan Khatun shared her story of gaining dignity and independence. “Families often hold us back from stepping out, but now with Rs 10,000, we can start our own businesses,” she said. Her witty line—”We used to see our husbands as our wealth, but now they see us as lakhpatis”—drew cheers and laughter from the group.

Ranjeeta Kazi from West Champaran called the Rozgar Yojana a real celebration. “Ujjwala freed us from kitchen smoke,” she explained. “I’ll use the Rs 10,000 for jowar and bajra farming. I dream of joining the Swadeshi movement and becoming a lakhpati didi one day.”

For Putul Devi in Purnea, who runs a small sweet shop, the scheme feels like a breakthrough. “People laughed at me before, but joining Jeevika changed everything,” she said. “With Rs 2 lakh in support, I’ll expand and align with PM Modi’s Swadeshi vision. The 125 free electricity units help me save for my kids’ education.” Modi lightened the mood by joking about the “politics of jalebi,” sparking laughter all around.

From Punra’s Putul Devi to others like her, these women highlighted how Bihar’s women entrepreneurs are thriving with government welfare schemes. Modi encouraged them to keep pushing their entrepreneurial spirit. “Visit at least one spot in your village and share these government initiatives,” he urged. “Inspire others just like you’re inspiring us today.”
