In Thiruvananthapuram, senior BJP leader and former Union Minister V. Muraleedharan didn’t hold back on Monday. He slammed the Left government in Kerala, claiming the state’s police force has turned into a safe haven for criminals loyal to the CPI-M party. Speaking at a BJP protest march against police atrocities, he painted a grim picture of the law-and-order crisis gripping Kerala.
Muraleedharan kicked off the event organized by the BJP Thiruvananthapuram City District Committee. The march headed straight to the Fort Assistant Commissioner’s office. “The police are no longer protectors—they’re agents of chaos,” he said. “Officers meant to shield citizens are now teaming up with criminals, and the Home Department has become a hideout for offenders under political protection.”
He didn’t stop there. Muraleedharan pointed to the infamous T.P. Chandrasekharan murder case as a shocking example. He accused Kerala police of letting the accused drink liquor while in custody, calling it clear evidence of how far the system has fallen. “Kerala’s police still operate like the oppressive force from the old days,” he added. “No real reforms have come here, unlike in other states—just a new uniform and nothing more.”
The BJP leader also criticized the Police Complaints Authority, saying it’s useless because complaints pile up without any action. He took a dig at the political scene too: “When Youth Congress workers get beaten up, the Opposition Leader is busy having dinner with the Chief Minister. This cozy collusion is letting lawlessness spread across Kerala.”
This protest was part of a bigger BJP agitation. Senior party leaders led similar demonstrations outside every DSP office in the state. With the Kerala Assembly session starting on Monday, the Congress-led Opposition plans to grill the government over recent police brutalities reported in the last 10 days. The BJP, with no seats in the 140-member house, is hitting the streets hard—especially as local body elections approach.
