Punjab floods man-made, timely action could prevent loss: Cong leader Bhagel

Punjab Flood Crisis: Congress Slams Government for Delayed Help

Punjab is facing a severe flood crisis, and the Congress is raising serious concerns about the government’s response. Former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister and Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel recently visited flood-affected areas in Punjab, calling the disaster “man-made” and pointing out that better planning could have prevented much of the damage.

Baghel emphasized that the floods caused massive destruction across many parts of Punjab, and timely action might have reduced the losses. He also demanded that the Central government provide a substantial and quick flood relief package to help those suffering.

During his visit, Baghel met with local residents and leaders in Tarn Taran, including senior Congress leaders like Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa, and former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi. He criticized both the state and Central governments for their apparent indifference toward flood victims.

Baghel expressed disappointment over the delayed relief efforts. “There has been complete negligence by the state government and administration,” he said. “They failed to take preventive measures despite warnings about an above-normal monsoon this year. Instead of acting early, they woke up too late, when the damage was already done.”

He also questioned why the Central government was delaying an interim relief package, especially since they knew the extent of the issue. He argued that quick support was necessary to help flood victims recover and rebuild their lives.

This is not the first time Baghel has spoken out. During his two-day visit to Punjab, he assessed the flood situation and reviewed relief efforts by Congress workers. He visited several flood-affected villages in Tarn Taran, Zira, Ferozepur, Guruharsahai, and Fazilka. Tomorrow, he plans to visit more areas including Ghonewal, Dharamkot Randhawa, and the Dera Baba Nanak Corridor in Gurdaspur district.

The flood situation in Punjab remains critical, and many residents are calling for urgent help. Critics say both the state and Central governments must do more to prepare for such disasters and support the victims effectively.
