Punjab Flood Relief: Government Distributes Rs 2 Crore Compensation to 50 Families
In a big step towards helping flood victims, the Punjab government has handed out Rs 2 crore in compensation to 50 families who lost loved ones in the recent devastating floods. These floods hit several parts of the state hard, claiming 56 lives in total. Officials shared this update on Sunday, adding that the remaining six families will get their aid soon.
Revenue Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian stepped up to reassure everyone. "Our government stands firmly with every family hit by this disaster," he said. He also promised full compensation for crop losses after the Girdawari assessment wraps up. This means farmers won’t have to worry about rebuilding on their own.
But the help doesn’t stop at money. Punjab has kicked off a massive flood relief and rehabilitation drive, especially in rural areas. Rural Development and Panchayats Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond announced that teams are clearing debris and disposing of animal carcasses in affected villages. They aim to finish this tough job by September 24.
To get things back to normal fast, a special cleanliness campaign is underway in 2,300 villages. Workers are removing silt and muck, while medical teams visit homes to warn people about water-borne diseases. Health and animal welfare top the list of priorities. Doctors are checking villagers and livestock, and they’re vaccinating animals to stop any disease outbreaks.
Health Minister Dr Balbir Singh highlighted the effort: "We’ve set up dedicated medical teams to keep epidemics at bay." Local Government Minister Dr Ravjot Singh added that nodal officers are on the ground, guiding executive teams to speed up the cleanup.
On the farming front, Agriculture Minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian revealed a five-day cleanliness drive in all grain markets, or mandis. This is key for the upcoming paddy procurement season, ensuring farmers can sell their produce without hassle after the floods wrecked so much.
Punjab officials are clear: the administration is working non-stop on flood relief efforts, restoring farmland, and safeguarding livelihoods for farmers and rural folks. It’s all about getting the state back on its feet.
