Punjab ramps up flood relief efforts with medical aid and infrastructure restoration

Punjab Ministers Step Up Flood Relief Efforts in Chandigarh

In the wake of devastating floods, the Punjab government is pulling out all stops to help affected families. Ministers are leading hands-on relief operations, focusing on quick aid, infrastructure fixes, and support for health and education in flood-hit areas like Ajnala and Patti.

Health and Family Welfare Minister Balbir Singh kicked things off by launching 15 new ambulances from Government Medical College in Amritsar. These vehicles target the flood-ravaged zones of Ajnala, boosting the total mobile medical units to 38. Teams on board are offering free check-ups, medicines, and urgent care to those hit hardest. "Dial 104 for immediate medical help," Minister Singh urged residents during his visits.

In a touching moment, Minister Singh met eight-year-old Abhijot Singh, a kidney patient at Guru Nanak Dev Hospital. He handed over a Rs 50,000 cheque to the family and promised full coverage of the boy’s treatment costs, plus compensation for their flood losses. Later, he visited Kot Gurbaksh village in Ajnala, distributing another Rs 50,000 cheques to impacted families. These steps show Punjab’s commitment to flood relief and healthcare access amid the crisis.

Education and Information Minister Harjot Singh Bains is equally busy rebuilding key infrastructure in his constituency. To prevent future floods from causing more damage, he ordered a 400-foot extension to the concrete retaining wall at Bibhor Sahib. This will stop hill debris from threatening nearby homes.

Minister Bains shared updates from his village tours: "Roads are fully connected again, traffic is back to normal, and electricity and water supplies are up and running." He tackled a major problem in Pighbari village, where a deep ravine cut off access to homes. His solution? Strengthen the existing road and build a new bridge at a cost of Rs 1.40 crore, ensuring smooth travel for everyone.

Meanwhile, Transport and Jails Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar distributed vital relief supplies to families along the Sutlej river in Patti. Items included ration packs, tarpaulins for shelter, kitchen essentials, and animal feed. He also gave direct financial aid to those in need.

Minister Bhullar announced that Punjab Chief Minister has directed officials to start a special damage assessment drive, called girdawari, from September 13. This flood damage survey will wrap up in 45 days, leading to quick compensation payouts for farmers and others affected.

These coordinated efforts highlight Punjab’s fast-track flood relief strategy, bringing hope and essentials to thousands in the region. Stay tuned for more updates on Punjab flood relief and government aid.
