Punjab’s 3rd National Lok Adalat brings quick justice to over 4.5 lakh cases

In a big win for accessible justice, the Punjab State Legal Services Authority pulled off the 3rd National Lok Adalat across the state on Saturday. They settled a whopping 4.50 lakh cases, giving people speedy resolutions without dragging things out in court.

Navjot Kaur, Member Secretary of the authority, shared the exciting update. This massive event, run under the National Legal Services Authority, aims to sort out disputes amicably and make justice available to everyone—just like Article 39-A of the Indian Constitution promises. It focused on civil cases, matrimonial issues, property fights, motor vehicle accidents, and more, easing the load on courts while helping folks find common ground.

They set up 447 Lok Adalat benches in districts and sub-divisions statewide. Out of 5.18 lakh cases taken up, 4.50 lakh got resolved on the spot. Thousands of people in Punjab saw their long-pending matters wrap up, clearing court backlogs and bringing real relief.

The response was huge—from banks and insurance companies to government departments and everyday citizens. Everyone pitched in to make National Lok Adalat 2023 a success.

Take the DLSA in Fazilka, for example. They cracked a 12-year-old cheating and fraud case, settling it with a Rs 15.50 lakh payout. Both sides worked hard through talks and finally agreed, thanks to the Lok Adalat’s push.

In SAS Nagar, the District Legal Services Authority ended an 8-year battle for decree holder Sheela. She claimed her award amount, and after a compromise, the parties released the money to her. No more endless litigation! Other districts also closed similar old cases during this drive.

Justice Ashwani Kumar Mishra, a Punjab and Haryana High Court judge and Executive Chairman of the Punjab State Legal Services Authority, gave a shoutout to everyone involved. Even with recent floods hitting the state, judicial officers, DLSA teams, and volunteers went all out to make the event a hit.

The authority thanked the Punjab and Haryana High Court, all district teams, judges, lawyers, police, and local admins for their teamwork. Events like the National Lok Adalat in Punjab show how community efforts can speed up justice for all.
