New Delhi, Oct 6 – The Congress party called for Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s resignation after a Dalit youth was brutally lynched in Raebareli. The Indian National Congress said the state’s law and order system has collapsed, allowing criminals to run free and causing more violence against Dalits, women and Muslims.
At a press conference in New Delhi’s All‑India Congress Committee headquarters, Rajendra Pal Gautam, Chairman of the Scheduled Caste Department, and MP Imran Masood slammed the Uttar Pradesh government. They warned that the state is becoming a breeding ground for crime and corruption.
The lynching took place on October 2 in Unchahar near Raebareli. Police found the victim’s body on a railway track. Congress leaders played a video of the attack during the briefing. They demand that the state pay ₹1 crore to each family affected by such incidents and push for fast‑track courts to deliver quick justice.
“We have seen a 75 % rise in Dalit atrocities across five BJP‑ruled states, with Uttar Pradesh alone accounting for 26.2 % of the cases,” Gautam said, citing National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) figures. “Discrimination against Dalits is now the new normal.”
Imran Masood added that the state government is ignoring Supreme Court orders and is practicing “bulldozer justice”. He accused the BJP of protecting those who spread hate and violence.
The Congress has promised to set up a fact‑finding team shortly and will publish a report on the incidence of caste‑based attacks. Support for the victim’s family was shown by Amethi MP K L Sharma and PCC president Ajay Rai, who met the relatives and offered assistance.
In a statement, Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, met the family’s relatives to discuss the tragic incident.
The Congress’s call for Yogi Adityanath’s resignation comes amid growing criticism of Uttar Pradesh’s handling of social violence. The party’s demands for compensation and faster justice highlight the urgent need to protect vulnerable communities and restore rule of law in the state.
