Rajasthan High Court Orders Electricity Restoration for MP Hanuman Beniwal’s Nagaur Home
In a big relief for Rashtriya Loktantrik Party leader and MP Hanuman Beniwal, the Rajasthan High Court stepped in to tackle the electricity cutoff at his Nagaur residence. The court has asked for a payment of Rs 6 lakh within 72 hours to get the power back on right away.
The house is actually registered under Beniwal’s brother, Premsukh Beniwal, who owes Rs 10.75 lakh in unpaid electricity bills. Ajmer Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (AVVNL) pulled the plug on July 2 after sending multiple notices starting from May 6. Beniwal quickly called it a political attack by the state government, claiming it’s all about settling scores with him.
Beniwal’s brother filed a petition in the High Court for help. On Wednesday, the judges ordered the Rs 6 lakh deposit, and once that’s done, AVVNL must reconnect the supply. The court also gave a settlement committee one month to sort out the full dispute between the Beniwal family and the electricity department.
Nagaur’s Superintending Engineer, Ashok Chaudhary, explained that AVVNL kicked off a special drive to chase down big defaulters—anyone with bills over Rs 1 lakh. "Premsukh Beniwal topped the list with Rs 10.75 lakh outstanding," Chaudhary said. "We sent six notices for payment and even offered to replace the meter, but nothing happened." He stressed that the disconnection followed all the rules, and reconnection will only happen after the court’s payment order.
If the Beniwals pay up soon, lights should be back on at the residence in just a few days. This Rajasthan electricity disconnection case has sparked a lot of political buzz—Beniwal sees it as targeted harassment, while officials insist it’s just about collecting dues and enforcing the law.
