Rajasthan: Kota set to make record with 221-foot Ravana effigy on Dussehra

Kota, Rajasthan, is gearing up for an epic Dussehra 2025 celebration that could break records with the tallest Ravana effigy ever—standing a whopping 221 feet high. This massive structure, built right here in the city, aims to land a spot in both the India Book of Records and the Asia Book of World Records, making Kota’s Vijayadashami festivities unforgettable.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma will join as chief guests, adding star power to the event. Crowds are already pouring in, with families and kids flocking to the Dussehra grounds to check out the giant Ravana alongside 60-foot effigies of his sons Meghnad and Kumbhakaran. It’s a sight that’s drawing thousands, blending tradition with jaw-dropping scale.

Local customs shine through as people toss stones at the Ravana effigy, a fun ritual said to invite peace and good fortune. This year’s highlight? A cutting-edge Ravana Dahan show using eco-friendly green fireworks, all controlled electronically for safety and flair. Artisan Tejendra Singh Chauhan, who crafted the beast, packed it with five pyrotechnic systems and 20 blast points. The fireworks kick off with booms from Ravana’s umbrella and crown, then light up his face, shield, sword, and even his navel in a colorful sequence of green, yellow, and blue bursts. Strategic explosions hit his forehead, chin, shoulders, and feet for a dramatic finale.

Fair Committee Chairman Vivek Rajvanshi stresses the green angle: every firework is eco-friendly to keep the environment in mind. Meghnad and Kumbhakaran’s effigies get their own 10 blast points with sustainable pyros too. After the main burn, expect a dazzling Phase 2 fireworks extravaganza in the fairgrounds, complete with colorful crackers, golden shots, and sparkling gold coin bursts that amp up the festive vibe.

Dussehra enthusiasm is buzzing across Rajasthan. In Jaipur, a 121-foot Ravana effigy at Vidyadhar Nagar Stadium lights up at 8:15 PM, with Deputy Chief Minister Diya Kumari as the chief guest. Adarsh Nagar hosts a 105-foot version burning at 7:30 PM, while Mansarovar features a 70-foot one—similar spectacles pop up statewide.

Other big names joining Kota’s event include Education Minister Madan Dilawar, Energy Minister Hiralal Nagar, and MLAs like Shanti Kumar Dhariwal, Sandeep Sharma, and Kalpana Devi.

For a truly unique twist, head to Hanumangarh where locals built a 52-foot Ravana effigy entirely from cow dung, reeds, coconut, and cow ghee—no bamboo, plastic, or regular fireworks in sight. This fully eco-friendly creation stays flat on the ground and burns at 6:06 PM, backed by community cow shelters. It’s a fresh take on sustainable Dussehra celebrations that honors tradition while going green.
