Heavy rains have swept through Jaipur since Thursday evening, finally cooling things down in the Rajasthan capital after a hot spell. The monsoon may have exited the state, but fresh showers are hitting many districts, bringing relief from the summer-like heat.
The downpour kicked off in Jaipur around 7 p.m. on Thursday and hasn’t let up for three straight days. Light rains sprinkled areas like Karauli, Alwar, and Dholpur, while clouds hung over Jalore, Barmer, Jodhpur, and Nagaur late into the evening.
The Jaipur Meteorological Centre issued a yellow alert for more rain on October 3 in districts including Bundi, Kota, Baran, Jhalawar, Chittorgarh, Pratapgarh, Dungarpur, Banswara, Udaipur, Bhilwara, Rajsamand, and Sirohi. Expect showers to stick around across Rajasthan until October 6.
A Western Disturbance is fueling the weather drama, with alerts for heavy rain and thunderstorms in the Bikaner and Jodhpur divisions on October 5 and 6. This could lead to torrential downpours in western and northern parts of the state.
In the last 24 hours, Alwar saw 5 mm of rain, Govindgarh in Alwar got 4 mm, Rajakheda in Dholpur had 5 mm, Dholpur city 4 mm, Karauli 6 mm, Nagaur 2.5 mm, and Jodhpur 1.4 mm. Lighter showers also fell in Jaipur, Dausa, Ganganagar, and Bikaner.
Earlier, cloudy skies cooled daytime highs in cities like Jaipur, Alwar, and Bharatpur. On Thursday, Sriganganagar topped out at 37.5 degrees Celsius, while Churu, Bikaner, and Jaisalmer hit 36 degrees. Jodhpur reached 33.9 degrees, Barmer 35.4, Pilani 35.8, Sikar 33.5, Kota 33.8, Alwar 35, Bhilwara 33.8, Ajmer 32.8, Chittorgarh 35, Udaipur 31.6, Jaipur 32, Hanumangarh 35.7, and Jalore 33.9.
Radheshyam Sharma, director of the Jaipur Meteorological Centre, explained the setup: “A strong low-pressure area formed in the Arabian Sea near Gujarat’s coast, feeding moisture into Rajasthan. Plus, a cyclonic circulation over northeastern Rajasthan is pulling in a trough that stretches to the Arabian Sea.” That’s why rains are ongoing in the southwest, north, and northeast districts.
A fresh Western Disturbance will stir things up over northern India starting October 4, hitting states like Rajasthan with more wet weather. Keep an eye on forecasts for potential heavy showers in the coming days.
