Rajiv Gandhi was agent of Swedish military firm in 1970s: Nishikant Dubey’s startling charge

In New Delhi on Friday, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey sparked a new political row by accusing former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi of acting as an agent for a Swedish military company in the 1970s. Dubey posted the claim on X, along with a document he said proved the allegation. His question—“Was Rahul Gandhi’s father, former PM Rajiv Gandhi, an agent of a Swedish military company and involved in brokerage back in the 70s?”—was met with a flurry of responses.
The attack comes just a day after Congress leaders turned the heat on Dubey. Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate said that the BJP MP’s wife had seen her declared assets balloon from ₹50 lakhs in 2009 to ₹31.32 crore in 2024. She warned that the growing gap could lead to a Lokpal inquiry and potentially cost Dubey his seat in Godda.
“These numbers don’t add up,” Shrinate told reporters. “We want a clear and impartial Lokpal investigation.” Congress filed a formal complaint on May 24, 2025, and gave the BJP a four‑week deadline to respond.
Dubey’s reply was brief: “maaza aa raha hai” – “having fun” – posted on his X account. The comment has only heightened tensions.
BJP says it will cooperate with any legal process while Congress insists the findings should be used to hold the ruling party accountable. The clash underscores a growing battle over transparency and ethics in India’s political arena.
