India’s Defence Minister Rajnath Singh celebrated the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) turning 100 years old, calling it more than just an organization’s milestone—it’s a powerful story of nation-building. Speaking on Thursday, Singh praised the RSS volunteers for their deep devotion to the country.
In a post on X, Singh highlighted how the RSS has spent the past century building strong values like character, discipline, unity, and service across society. “RSS volunteers have always stepped up during natural disasters, social crises, or calls for nation-building,” he said. “They show true dedication through service and organization, while promoting cultural pride, social harmony, and love for the motherland.”
As an RSS volunteer himself, Singh shared a personal touch. “I’ve seen the RSS’s tradition of service and sacrifice firsthand,” he noted. He wished all volunteers well on the centenary, seeing it as a commitment to a stronger, self-reliant India.
In Nagpur, RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat led tributes to the organization’s founder, Dr. Keshav Baliram Hedgewar, during the Vijaydashmi Utsav event. The RSS started in 1925, so Thursday marked the start of its 100-year milestone. Former President Ram Nath Kovind joined as the chief guest, standing with Bhagwat to honor Hedgewar’s statue with flower petals and folded hands.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also sent warm wishes to RSS volunteers on their 100th anniversary. He compared the organization to a massive banyan tree that has grown to support nation-building in unique ways. In an X post, Dhami thanked Hedgewar for planting the “sacred seed” of the RSS and praised the leaders for their unwavering dedication.
The RSS began in Nagpur, Maharashtra, in 1925 under Dr. Hedgewar’s vision. It focuses on creating cultural awareness, discipline, service, and social responsibility through its volunteer network.
The day before, Prime Minister Narendra Modi kicked off the RSS centenary celebrations as the chief guest at the Dr. Ambedkar International Centre in New Delhi. Modi commended the RSS for its ongoing role in nation-building and how it has shaped countless lives over the decades. “Since its founding, the RSS has chased a big goal: building the nation,” he said.
