On Saturday, Karnaveer Singh Yadav—better known as Lallu Mukhiya—took the stand in the Barh civil court in Patna. The RJD politician, who represents the Barh Assembly constituency, finally appeared after nearly two years of being off the authorities’ radar.

Yadav had been hiding since the murder case filed against him in 2023. Throughout this time, police carried out a series of raids in an effort to bring him in. When the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections began, the Supreme Court granted him a temporary stay on arrest, which allowed him to slip underground.

In recent search operations, officers even seized his house. With the stay now expired and a fresh bail plea turned down by both the Supreme Court and the High Court, Lallu Mukhiya decided to surrender. He was taken into custody on the court’s order and, after completing the usual court formalities, was transferred to Barh jail under judicial custody.

As the principal accused in the 2023 murder case, Yadav had been out of reach for police and the judiciary alike. Despite the temporary relief that was given to him because he was contesting elections, the courts ultimately refused to grant him bail, leaving surrender as his only option.

Yadav, a significant figure in local politics around Barh and Mokama, has long claimed that he was once close to the powerful Anant Singh. He also accuses Munger MP Rajiv Ranjan Singh—also known as Lalan Singh—of orchestrating politically motivated charges against him.

With his surrender, the police and courts can now push the murder case forward. The spotlight on Barh and Mokama had already been heightened during the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, largely due to the high‑profile murder of Dularchand Yadav.

According to reports, Dularchand Yadav was struck by a vehicle while campaigning for the Jan Suraaj candidate Piyush Priyadarshi and the JDU candidate Bahubali Anant Singh on 30 October. The incident inflamed tensions, and the next day, unknown assailants damaged the car of an RJD candidate in the neighboring Barh constituency.

Anant Singh is currently imprisoned in Patna’s Beur Central Jail following his involvement in the Dularchand Yadav murder case.
