RJD says ‘all is well’ in Mahagathbandhan amid seat-sharing talks

India’s Bihar Assembly elections are just weeks away, but the big story tonight isn’t the campaign ads or the voter lists – it’s a crack‑in the Grand Alliance, the Mahagathbandhan, that many are worried could split the opposition to the BJP’s NDA.

RJD spokesperson Mrityunjay Tiwari told that any rumours of trouble in the alliance are unfounded. “All is well,” he said. “We’re finalising seat‑sharing, and in a day or two the official list will be out. Every party will get its due respect and our share.”

The Mahagathbandhan, made up of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), the Indian National Congress, and several left parties, is set to challenge the BJP‑led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Bihar’s November 6–11 polls. The outcome will decide who becomes the next chief minister. Tiwari points to the public’s preference for Tejashwi Yadav’s government, saying the people “have already decided that we will form the Tejashwi government in Bihar.”

While the alliance talks about unity, the RJD is filing a protest with the state election officials. A memorandum was presented to Chief Electoral Officer Vinod Singh Gunjiyal on Tuesday, accusing the state government of politically motivated transfers of election staff. Many officials had just 45 days in office before being moved, the RJD says. The party wants the Election Commission of India to step in and guarantee a fair vote.

The RJD also demanded transparency from the Election Commission about the final Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list. They want to know how many “foreign infiltrators,” if any, were identified and removed.

As campaign rallies heat up, the model code of conduct is in force and the final vote count will come by November 16. For voters in Bihar, the key question is whether the Mahagathbandhan can stay united and beat the BJP‑led NDA in this high‑stakes election.
