Soha Ali Khan, the Bollywood star and author, has taken a fun new turn as a podcaster. She launched her own podcast series on YouTube back on August 22, chatting with inspiring women from all walks of life about their journeys and life lessons. Fans love her warm, witty style and honest talks that feel like a cozy conversation.
In the latest episode, Soha welcomes Union Minister Smriti Irani for a heartfelt discussion on her political career. Smriti opens up about overcoming stereotypes as a former actor and how she built her path through real grassroots work.
Soha asked if being a famous face helped or hurt her in politics. Smriti didn’t hold back: “It’s a disadvantage. People assume actors jump into politics just to wind down their careers, not to get serious from the ground up. Most get parachuted in because of their popularity and end up as Rajya Sabha members.”
She shared how she proved everyone wrong. “I joined active politics in 2003 as a youth wing member of the BJP in Maharashtra. My batchmate is now the Chief Minister there, and another colleague, Dharmendra Pradhan, is the Education Minister. But I wanted to earn respect by working in the trenches with my team—I knew I was in it for the long run.”
Smriti climbed the ranks, becoming State Secretary in Maharashtra under Nitin Gadkari’s presidency. She’s worked with five BJP presidents: Rajnath Singh, Nitin Gadkari, Amit Shah, J.P. Nadda, and Venkaiah Naidu. At just 27, she fought her first election in 2004. “So, I can say, ‘Been there, done that,'” she added with a laugh.
Soha’s podcast has already featured stars like Sunny Leone and Patralekhaa, plus doctors and more. It’s gaining fans for those real, inspiring stories. If you’re into Bollywood podcasts, Smriti Irani episodes, or women in politics tales, this one’s a must-listen!
