Lucknow, Nov 10 – Lucknow police said the Special Task Force (STF) shut down a big illegal oxytocin‑injection racket and arrested two suspects from Ujariyaon village in the city’s Gomti Nagar area.
The STF raided a house in Ujariyaon on Sunday afternoon, following months of surveillance. The raid uncovered a hidden factory that produced and distributed “toxic” oxytocin shots. Deputy Superintendent of Police (STF), Deepak Singh, said the operation had supplied injections across Lucknow, neighboring districts, and even to other states like Bihar and Delhi.
“Raw oxytocin powder was brought in from China, then mixed with phenol, urea, salt, vinegar and colour to get the finished shots,” Singh told reporters. The seized injection stock is worth about ₹1 crore.
Police identified the arrested men as Qayum Ali from Malakpur village in Baghpat district and his accomplice, Mohammad Ibrahim from Madeyganj Kadam, Rasool Ward. Qayum told investigators that the powder arrived in Lucknow via a courier that first touched Loni Katra in Ghaziabad.
The finished injections were sold to dairies, vegetable vendors and farmers across several states. Farmers reportedly mixed the chemicals into water to wash vegetables, making them look fresher and fetch higher prices. The STF warned that animals and humans exposed to these tainted products could face serious health risks, including cancer and other chronic illnesses.
During the raid, the SWT recovered 1,018 vials of oxytocin (180 ml each), 70 litres of the injection solution (14 cans of five litres each), 55 litres of phenol, 27 litres of vinegar, 16,500 empty vials, 3,000 blue and 3,000 red aluminium caps, 2,500 rubber caps, 19 kg of salt, a PhonePe scanner, three mobile phones, and ₹790 in cash. All materials were sent to a lab for testing.
The investigation continues, and police say more information will be released as the case unfolds.
