New Delhi – The Supreme Court praised India’s huge progress in road transport. In a recent judgment, Justices Dipankar Datta and Augustine George Masih highlighted how the country has sharply upgraded its highways and expressways, linking even the most remote villages to nearby cities.
The court said the new roads cut travel time and speed up the movement of people and goods across state borders. “India’s highways now offer smooth, fast routes that boost economic growth,” the bench noted. The judges also pointed out that the surface of these roads is smoother than ever, giving commuters a ride that rivals international standards.
The decision also celebrated the modernisation of public transport. Digital tools – such as e‑ticketing, mobile tracking apps and electric buses – have made State Road Transport Corporations more efficient, friendly to passengers and cleaner for the environment. “Technology has become a game‑changer,” the court said, urging continuous innovation and investment.
In practical terms, the court asked the transport secretaries of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh to meet within three months. They must iron out the details of their reciprocal transport permits and ensure that public interest stays protected. This move follows the court’s review of disputes under the Motor Vehicles Act of 1988.
