Indian Railways announces 3-day special Vande Bharat train between New Delhi and Udhampur amid flight cancellations

On December 9, the Jammu division of Northern Railways announced that a special Vande Bharat service would run from New Delhi to Udhampur for three days starting 12 December, in order to move people who have been stranded by widespread flights being cancelled — most of them are upset after IndiGo halted its operations for the region.
The three‑day run will feature two routes: “02439 New Delhi‑Udhampur Vande Bharat” and “02440 Udhampur‑New Delhi Vande Bharat”, each making three trips in the same direction between 12 and 14 December. According to Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Uchit Singhal, the Delhi‑bound train leaves at 6 a.m., stops at Ambala Cantt, Ludhiana, Pathankot Cantt and Jammu Tawi, and reaches Udhampur at 2 p.m.; the return departs Udhampur at 3 p.m. and arrives back in Delhi at 11 p.m. The train will be composed of 20 coaches and is intended to offer a safe, affordable alternative for those waiting for flights.
Passengers are urged to consult official sources, such as the Indian Railways website or the National Train Enquiry System (NTES) app, for accurate details before setting off.
In addition, Northern Railway is already preparing a direct service between Katra in the Reasi district and the Kashmir Valley, which is expected to start before the end of the year.
