Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared big news on Monday about beloved singer Zubeen Garg. The state will carry out a second post-mortem on Tuesday morning, just before his final rites. Fans and followers pushed for this step, raising questions about a possible conspiracy behind Garg’s sudden death last week in Singapore while swimming in the sea.
Sarma explained to reporters that the first autopsy happened in Singapore and seemed fair, with no local biases involved. “But so many people want another check, so we’re doing it,” he said. The government got the okay from Garg’s wife, Garima Garg, through Union Minister Pabitra Margherita. She agreed they could go ahead.
The second autopsy kicks off at 7:30 a.m. at Guwahati Medical College and Hospital. Doctors from AIIMS will join the team, and the whole process should wrap up in about 90 minutes. After that, Garg’s remains head to Sarusajai Sports Complex to start the funeral procession.
Sarma noted that Tuesday’s schedule shifted because of the post-mortem. He also described a simple and respectful funeral setup. Only the ambulance with Garg’s remains and a small bus carrying his wife, close family, and friends will join the procession—no extra vehicles. “We’ll keep it smooth, just like when we brought him from the airport,” Sarma added.
At the cremation site, Assam Police pallbearers will escort the remains from the highway. They’ll give a guard of honor and a gun salute before the priest leads the rites, all based on the family’s choices. “We’re following their lead,” Sarma said.
To keep things orderly for Zubeen Garg’s funeral, the government set up tight security and traffic rules. No vehicles can enter from the Jagiroad side that day, though cars heading to Meghalaya can pass through. Traffic from Jorabat will pause for four to five hours to make the ceremony smooth and dignified.
The state declared mourning until Tuesday for the music icon. Garg’s remains arrived in his hometown Guwahati on Sunday morning, drawing thousands of grieving fans who lined the streets for one last look at Assam’s favorite singer.
