Security Forces Neutralise Two Maoists in Intense Gunfight in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur
In a bold move against Maoists in Chhattisgarh, security forces took down two armed rebels during a heated encounter in the dense forests of Mankeli-Gorna, Bijapur district. This latest clash highlights the ongoing fight against the Maoist insurgency in the region.
The action kicked off early Wednesday morning, thanks to solid intelligence tips about Maoist hideouts. A team from the District Reserve Guard (DRG), backed by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and local police, pushed deep into the southwestern forests of Bijapur. As they closed in on the spot, Maoists ambushed them, sparking a fierce one-hour shootout.
The forces fired back sharply and came out on top. After the dust settled, they recovered the bodies of two Maoists, along with key weapons like a .303 rifle, a Barrel Grenade Launcher (BGL), and explosive materials. Bijapur police officials quickly moved the bodies to the district headquarters for identification and further checks.
Even now, the area buzzes with activity. Security teams report occasional firing as they keep combing the forests for more threats. This win piles on the pressure for the banned CPI (Maoist) group, which has faced heavy blows lately. Across Bastar and Dantewada, operations have led to senior Maoist leaders surrendering, key arrests, and big hauls of arms and propaganda stuff.
Adding a twist, the Maoist party’s central spokesperson, Abhay, dropped a pamphlet on Tuesday calling for a temporary pause in the armed struggle. He urged the Central government to set up a committee for peace talks and suggested a one-month ceasefire so Maoist leaders could chat internally. They even shared an email for official talks, hinting at a possible switch from fighting to negotiating.
But security agencies aren’t letting their guard down. Officials say they’re open to dialogue, yet they’ll keep up the operations to protect civilians and break down the Maoist setup. With Chhattisgarh battling decades of this insurgency, this encounter shows how tough the security forces are and how the Maoist game might be changing.
The government’s mix of strong action and talk of peace could really shape what’s next for the region. Stay tuned as things unfold in this key Maoist hotspot.
