Air travel in India has taken off like never before. Back in 2014, around 11 crore people flew across the country. Fast forward to 2025, and that number has more than doubled to about 25 crore passengers, according to Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu.
The minister shared an exciting example from Hindon Airport near Delhi. In 2020, it had just one flight. Today, it connects to 16 cities across India—a huge leap that shows how the aviation sector is booming.
Naidu launched the pan-India ‘Yatri Sewa Diwas 2025’ from Hindon Airport, calling it a key step in the government’s push for top-notch travel experiences. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has changed governance over the last 11 years by focusing on serving people as the Pradhan Sevak,” he said. “We in aviation treat every passenger as our top priority and every trip as a chance to deliver excellent service.”
He added that passengers drive the growth of India’s aviation ecosystem, which is why they launched Yatri Sewa Diwas. It’s all about celebrating progress and promising smooth, respectful journeys under the ‘Passenger First’ motto, inspired by PM Modi’s ‘Nation First’ vision.
Under Modi’s leadership, air travel has shifted from being an elite perk to something affordable for everyone. The UDAN scheme has made flights more accessible, connecting remote areas and boosting regional connectivity.
Good news for frequent flyers: Soon, every airport in India will offer free Wi-Fi as part of the Digital India Mission, making waits more enjoyable and modern.
Naidu also urged the aviation industry to support ‘Vocal for Local’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ by choosing homegrown products. This will help build a developed India, or Viksit Bharat, with better services for all travelers.
