Indian Army soldiers from the Spear Corps have conquered Mount Gorichen, the tallest climbable peak in Arunachal Pradesh at 6,488 meters. Officials announced the success on Saturday, calling it a big win for the team’s grit and teamwork.
The climb happened on September 19 in the tough Eastern Himalayas. Defense spokesman Lt. Col. Mahendra Rawat explained that the expedition aimed to build adventure skills and toughness in soldiers. It also showed the Army’s dedication to protecting the area’s natural beauty. “Battling strong winds, icy paths, and thin oxygen at high altitudes, the soldiers worked together and reached the top of the ‘Roof of Arunachal’,” Rawat said.
On top of the summit, the team cleaned up trash along the route. This move highlights the Indian Army’s focus on environmental care and sustainable mountaineering in the Himalayas. Rawat noted that it reminds everyone to safeguard India’s stunning mountain ecosystems.
Lieutenant General Abhijit S. Pendharkar, who leads the Spear Corps, praised the group. “This climb shows the Indian Army’s strength and resolve,” he said. “Our soldiers didn’t just beat the peak—they also led by example in caring for the environment. We’re proud of the Spear Corps and the whole Army.”
The achievement celebrates military prowess while pushing eco-friendly practices, tying into the Army’s values of bravery, perseverance, and service to the nation and its Himalayan treasures.
In other news from the Spear Corps, soldiers wrapped up a two-week Yoga program in Along, Arunachal Pradesh, on September 27. The training, held from September 15, mixed physical workouts with mental strength-building through Yoga.
Trained instructors led sessions suited to the soldiers’ demanding lives in rugged terrain and harsh weather. Rawat said the program went beyond fitness—it helped build inner calm, emotional steadiness, and spiritual power to handle stress on the job.
“This effort proves the Indian Army’s push for all-around health, matching India’s goal of making Yoga part of daily life,” Rawat added. The end of the program at Along boosts the Corps’ goal of creating well-rounded warriors ready for any challenge with poise and power.
