SIT to file charge sheet in Zubeen Garg death case by November: Assam CM

In Guwahati, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) examining the death of popular singer and cultural icon Zubeen Garg should file its chargesheet by November.
The CM said the state will soon ask the Gauhati High Court to create a fast‑track court so the trial can move quickly and transparently. A special public prosecutor will be appointed to handle the case.

“We expect the charge sheet in November and will push the High Court to set up a fast‑track court so the trial runs without delay,” Sarma told reporters.

Sarma also addressed unrest that erupted at the Baksa District Jail over the case. Nine people were arrested after video footage identified them. The detainees include Nurul Alom, Mahidul Islam (of the All Bodoland Minority Students’ Union), Mustafa Ahmed, Sipjon Ali, Sahidul, Ahela Mia, Ramiz Ali, Asik, and Harekrishna Pathak (a former All Assam Students’ Union member).

He confirmed that two youths, injured during the incident, are receiving treatment at AIIMS and are stable. The CM clarified that there were no deaths in the Baksa event and that further arrests may happen as more evidence comes to light.

The Assam government is closely monitoring the situation and aims to deliver swift justice in the high‑profile Zubeen Garg case.
