Bihar: Nitish Kumar sets target of 1 crore jobs in five years; unveils vision for ‘New Age Economy’

After taking office in Bihar, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar pointed out that creating jobs and expanding government employment for young people will continue to be his main focus.

He published a comprehensive update on his X account, outlining an ambitious plan to transform the state into a high‑tech, innovation‑driven economy. Kumar said: “Providing government jobs and employment to as many youth as possible in the state has been our priority from the beginning. Under Saat Nischay‑2, 50 lakh youth were given government jobs and employment between 2020–25. We have now set a target of providing jobs and employment to 1 crore youth in the next five years (2025–30).”

He noted that the government kicked off efforts straightaway to broaden industry and maximise job opportunities. The CM laid out a vision for a “New Age Economy” rooted in technology and service‑based innovation. To speed up progress, he will consult with leading entrepreneurs and build an action plan with key departments, economists and specialists, aiming to position Bihar as a “Global Backend Hub” and a “Global Workplace.”

Emphasising the state’s youthful demographic, Kumar said Bihar has the chance to become one of India’s fastest‑growing regions if its young talent is effectively harnessed. He highlighted several flagship projects: establishing a defence corridor, setting up semiconductor manufacturing parks, creating Global Capability Centres (GCCs), building Mega Tech Cities and Fintech Cities, and developing a statewide network of future‑focused industries. “Given Bihar’s large pool of young human resources, the state will be developed as a new technology hub for Eastern India,” he added.

The CM also revealed that policy and operational plans are in place for new sugar mills, the revival of old or closed mills, launching the Bihar Artificial Intelligence Mission to embed AI in governance, and modernising major cities. A high‑level committee chaired by the Chief Secretary has been formed to draft the detailed action plan and monitor its execution. “This committee will oversee schemes that promote industrial development and increase employment opportunities for the youth,” he said.

Kumar highlighted that industrial growth in Bihar has gained significant momentum recently. He explained that large‑scale industries need industrial corridors, world‑class infrastructure, reliable power, efficient water management, and a skilled workforce—all of which are now available in the state. “We have initiated rapid work to promote industrial development and generate employment for the youth over the next five years. We complete whatever we undertake,” he affirmed.
