New Delhi, Oct 13 – Delhi Police stepped up a crackdown on illegal immigrants and arrested six African nationals who had overstayed in the city.
During a routine patrol that weekend, the Nihal Vihar unit received a tip that six foreign citizens were living illegally in a house in Chander Vihar. Acting quickly on the tip, the officers went to the location.
The men tried to flee as soon as they saw the police, but the officers chased them and captured all six right there.
The men, identified by police as Frank Fotching, Romeo Lucien, Malk Faraday, Samunel, Evans Danso, and Innousa, were asked for passports and visas. They could not produce any documents and later confessed that their visas had expired.
Police verified that all six had stayed in Delhi beyond their allowed period and that they had no lawful reason to remain.
As a result, a case under Section 14(c) of the Foreigners Act was opened against the house owner for sheltering the illegal immigrants. Deportation procedures have been started by the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO).
All six men are now in the Detention Centre at Sewa Sadan, Lampur, Narela, awaiting deportation.
The city’s police force is carrying out similar sweeps across New Delhi to spot, detain, and deport other undocumented residents.
