In New Delhi on December 7, the chief of the Bahujan Samaj Party, Mayawati, drew attention to the Constitution’s importance and purity. She emphasized that it could be the only answer to the many problems gripping the country today—from poverty and unemployment to the nationwide crisis in aviation and the economic squeeze felt by ordinary citizens.
Mayawati also expressed gratitude to the thousands who joined in paying tribute to Baba Saheb Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar. The supporters gathered in large numbers at memorials across Noida and other parts of Uttar Pradesh to honor the Dalit icon on his Mahaparinirvan Diwas, the day he left for the heavens.
On her X account, the BSP leader posted:
> “My deepest thanks and gratitude to all the people, including party office‑bearers and workers from Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Delhi, who gathered at ‘Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Social Transformation Site’ in Lucknow and at ‘National Dalit Inspiration Site and Green Garden’ in Noida to pay tributes to the messiah of Bahujan Samaj.”
She added, “No amount of praise for all of them is enough.”
In a broader reflection on current affairs, Mayawati warned that India faces a pivotal moment that demands decisive policy choices to relieve everyday hardships—beyond just tackling poverty and unemployment.
She sharply criticized the government for airline cancellations, Delhi’s worsening air pollution, and the falling value of the Indian rupee on the world stage. She argued that the only way to address these challenges is to fully enact Baba Saheb’s Constitution for the benefit of all.
> “Governments will have to abandon a commercial perspective and formulate policies, laws, and programmes, etc., with honest intent purely for public welfare and public good, and only then will relief from problems and the welfare of the country and the people be possible,” she said.
Reminding listeners of Dr B. R. Ambedkar’s lifelong fight to advance the rights of the ‘Bahujan samaj,’ Mayawati underscored that he embedded numerous protections in the Constitution. She stressed that proper implementation of those provisions is essential and urgent at this time.
