Karnal, Oct 18 – Union Minister Manohar Lal visited the city of Karnal in Haryana on Saturday and held a daylight press conference. He announced a two‑month series of programmes to mark National Unity Day on the birthday of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. The events will run from 31 Oct to 31 Dec.

The minister said that villages and towns across the country will hold 8‑ to 10‑km unity marches on 25, 26 and 27 Oct. Young people, volunteers and locals are invited to march together to boost national integration, solidarity and patriotism. A “Run for Unity” is scheduled for 31 Oct. Registrations are open on the “Mera Yuva Bharat (MY Bharat)” portal.

Beyond the marches, the government will organise seminars, exhibitions and free literature that highlight Sardar Patel’s life and legacy. These events aim to inspire and educate the next generation.

During the same conference, Manohar Lal wished all Indians and residents of Haryana well for the coming festivals – Dhanteras, Chhoti Diwali, Diwali, Govardhan Puja and Bhai Dooj. He described the festive season as a sign of harmony and unity.

He also congratulated Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and the people of the state on the first anniversary of the government’s third term, noting that the state is delivering on its promises. The minister highlighted recent welfare measures, including a ₹200 rise in old‑age pensions, and announced the launch of the “Lado Lakshmi Yojana”. Under this scheme, women will receive ₹2,100 directly into their bank accounts starting in November.

“All benefits of our schemes come through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to ensure transparency and efficiency,” the minister added. “Haryana is on a steady path of development and we will roll out new schemes in the next four years.”

He summed up the government’s achievements as clean governance, prosperous citizens and an optimistic environment.
