Mumbai, Nov 8 – Shiv Sena, the party founded by the late Balasaheb Thackeray, rolled out its list of 40 star campaigners ahead of Maharashtra’s local body elections. The move follows a decision by the State Election Commission (SEC) to raise the allowed number of star campaigners from 20 to 40.
The list features party leaders and MPs, including Uddhav Thackeray, his son Aaditya Thackeray, party MP Sanjay Raut (who is currently in hospital), and a mix of senior and emerging figures such as Bhaskar Jadhav, Aadesh Bandekar, Sushma Andhare, Kiran Mane, Sharad Koli, and Subhash Desai. Others announced include Anant Geete, Chandrakant Khaire, Arvind Sawant, Vinayak Raut, Rajan Vichare, Sailan Prabhu, Varun Sardesai, Ambadas Danve, Ravindra Mirlekar, Nitin Banugade Patil, Rajkumar Bafna, Priyanka Chaturvedi, and several more local leaders.
These star campaigners will travel across Maharashtra to rally supporters for the upcoming elections, which aim to fill 246 Nagar Parishads and 42 Nagar Panchayats. The polls are set for December 2, with counting on December 3.
SEC guidance says that once the appointments are shown, party candidates must file their nomination papers between Nov 10 and Nov 17. Scrutiny will happen on Nov 18, and withdrawals are allowed until Nov 21, with appeals accepted until Nov 25.
After the city elections, the SEC will next announce the schedule for 32 district (zilla) parishads and 29 municipal corporations, including the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). The Supreme Court has urged that all pending elections in Maharashtra be completed by Jan 31, 2026.
With its star lineup, Shiv Sena is aiming to capture key local positions and strengthen its foothold across Maharashtra as the December voting day approaches.
