Big preparations underway in Imphal as Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Manipur is expected soon. Rumors suggest that the Prime Minister may arrive on September 13, and authorities are leaving no stone unturned to organize a grand welcome.

In the heart of Imphal, at the historic Kangla Fort, a large stage is being set up to host thousands of visitors. Over 100 workers are working tirelessly to build this stage and beautify the area. Although officials are tight-lipped about the details, they confirmed that preparations are in full swing to host more than 15,000 people in front of the makeshift stage.

Meanwhile, along the 7 km road from Imphal airport to Kangla Fort, road repairs and beautification works are also ongoing. Trees are being trimmed, and the entire area is being spruced up for the big event.

Security is a top priority. Authorities are preparing helipads at Kangla Fort and Churachandpur district, while security personnel are reinforcing their patrols and arrangements. A senior police official, speaking anonymously, shared that extras security measures are in place ahead of the Prime Minister’s visit.

Media reports suggest that PM Modi could visit Manipur as part of his tour, which might also include stops in Mizoram and Assam. If confirmed, he could be visiting for the first time since ethnic clashes erupted between the Meiteis and Kukis in May 2023.

In Mizoram, the Prime Minister is expected to inaugurate a new railway line connecting Bairabi and Sairang, a 51.38 km project. In Churachandpur, authorities have declared the district a ‘No Drone Zone’ to ensure security, forbidding the use of drones and other flying devices during the visit. Violators could face legal action.

The Manipur government has directed senior civil and police officials to prepare for the Prime Minister’s arrival, though no official date or details about the VVIP have been disclosed yet. A recent meeting led by the state’s Chief Secretary emphasized the need for tight security and smooth arrangements, including anti-sabotage checks and jamming systems.

Interestingly, Assam’s Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced that PM Modi may visit Assam on September 13-14. His trip there will celebrate the birth centenary of legendary singer and cultural icon Bhupen Hazarika, with the Prime Minister also set to inaugurate official festivities in Guwahati.

As the countdown begins, all eyes are on Imphal and the surrounding regions to see how these grand preparations unfold for what could be a historic visit by Modi to Manipur.
