Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha called on the state’s young people to launch a big push against drug abuse. He shared that the government is taking strong steps to turn Tripura into a drug-free zone, known as Nasha Mukt Tripura.
Saha made these comments during the Namo Yuva Run marathon on Sunday. The event kicked off from Ujjayanta Palace in Agartala, organized by the BJP Yuva Morcha. He praised the group for putting it together as part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 75th birthday celebrations. These include the Seva Pakhwada from September 17 to October 2, packed with social service activities across the country.
“Everyone heard PM Modi’s speech from Madhya Pradesh,” Saha said. “He talked about how he’s building a stronger India, and with 65% of our people being youth, that’s a huge asset. If we use it right, nothing can hold back our progress—that’s exactly what Modi wants us to do.”
Saha pointed out that the prime minister often asks citizens for ideas on India’s growth. He urged young folks to step up in the fight against addiction. “Drugs can wreck families and whole communities,” he warned. “We’ve seen what past governments missed, but since 2018, our police and security teams have cracked down hard. They’ve seized tons of narcotics and nabbed drug smugglers. Now it’s time for youth to join this mass movement and highlight the real dangers.”
The event drew key figures like MP and BJP state president Rajib Bhattacharjee, Yuva Morcha president and MLA Sushanta Deb, MLA Sambhu Lal Chakma (Yuva Morcha general secretary), Bhagaban Das (another general secretary), and Sukanta Ghosh from the Sports Council. Efforts like these aim to build awareness and shield Tripura’s youth from drug threats amid rising smuggling concerns in the region.
