Family members and hundreds of mourners gather in agony to remember life of rising Latin singer DELARSOA
The funeral of 22‑year‑old Latin singer Maria “DELAROSA” De La Rosa, who was tragically shot in an Escalade in Northridge, was attended by a grieving family and hundreds of mourners.
For the Sunday, noon Catholic service at Mission San Fernando Cemetery on Mission Hills, more than two hundred friends and relatives, all in black, gathered. The ceremony was delivered in English and Spanish. Throughout, the De La Rosa family’s grief was palpable, their tears a testament to the loss they feel.
The family then held a private viewing of the casket, where Deyanira, the mother, could be heard yelling “my baby!” in Spanish, her voice shaking with anguish.
Just moments before the service started, Deyanira was told by Los Angeles Archdiocese officials that her personal photographer could not come inside the church. The mother, emotional, declared she didn’t want to take pictures herself but that her daughter had always been passionate about photographing people, saying it was “what she asked me to do.” Her boyfriend, Tomer Jeddah, tried to intervene, warning the officials to “call the police, try to stop me.”
In the end, the family secured permission, and the ceremony was streamed live on Deyanira’s Instagram, allowing fans and relatives in her native Colombia to share in the grief.
During the service, Deyanira’s husband, George De La Rosa, spoke with tear‑filled eyes, recalling Maria’s endless energy and playful habit of asking him if he’d had breakfast when she woke at 11 a.m. He said, “She was just starting—this hurts,” and added that while he trusted God’s purpose, the pain of losing her was unbearable and he would have liked her to be present.
The white casket was carried by a horse and buggy through a sprawling graveyard to a plot situated between two private family sections the De La Rosa’s had bought, ensuring no other burying would take place there. In the final moments as the coffin was lowered, mourners laid bouquets and pink and white roses at the side of the casket, while Deyanira’s anguished cries echoed across the cemetery. As the earth was covered over the grave, she screamed and sobbed, insisting, “I can do it better than all of these men together.”
