BJP leader Sudhanshu Trivedi has slammed West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and other INDIA bloc figures for what he calls an insult to Hindu feelings during the ongoing Navratri festival. Speaking to reporters at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi on Saturday, Trivedi pointed to a recent incident at a Durga Puja pandal in Kolkata, where Banerjee attended an event featuring a controversial song.
The song in question, “Jaldi mujhe le chalo, mere dil mein hai Kaaba aur mere mann mein hai Madina,” references Islamic holy sites. Trivedi called it a direct slight against Hindu faith, especially since it played while Banerjee was there clapping along. “The whole country is immersed in Navratri devotion, but these INDIA bloc leaders are showing their true colors,” he said.
Trivedi tied this to a past remark by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who once said the opposition needed to “fight against Shakti”—a reference to the Hindu goddess power celebrated in Navratri. “It looks like the INDIA alliance is kicking off its attack on Hindu beliefs right from the start of the festival,” Trivedi charged.
He also brought up a fresh controversy in Karnataka, where the Congress-led state government invited a Muslim Booker Prize-winning author to kick off the famous Mysuru Dasara celebrations. Trivedi sees this as part of a pattern of “deliberate appeasement” toward minorities at the expense of Hindu traditions.
“Why play songs about Kaaba and Madina in a Durga Puja pandal? There’s no issue if someone personally feels that way, but not during a Hindu festival with the chief minister cheering,” Trivedi questioned.
The accusations didn’t stop there. Trivedi claimed that during Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to West Bengal on Friday, organizers removed Shah’s posters near a pandal he was set to visit and put up Banerjee’s instead. He added that another pandal, themed around “Operation Sindoor”—a nod to a military operation—got shut down forcefully and lost out on government funding.
“Durga Puja holds a huge spot in West Bengal’s culture and religion,” Trivedi said. He accused Banerjee of fueling these acts and urged her and Gandhi to explain their parties’ real intentions toward Hindu customs.
