In Kanpur’s Mulganj neighbourhood, two scooters exploded early on Wednesday, October 9, injuring eight residents. The blasts rattled a toy market in Mishri Bazaar, damaging a shop and sparking a full‑scale police probe.
Police Commissioner Raghuveer Lal said the authorities suspect a firecracker mishap or a deliberate act, and they are examining every angle. Forensic analysts, the Anti‑Terrorism Squad, and the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad are all on site, along with the Special Task Force.
Says Lal, four victims bear minor wounds, while four others – including a rag‑picker woman – are headed to a higher‑level hospital in Lucknow. Two people have already left the hospital, two remain under observation, and the rest are being monitored for any complications.
One of the scooters was registered to Ashwini Kumar, who was also injured; the second belonged to Vijender Rastogi, who has not yet been contacted. The investigation will determine whether this was a simple accident or part of a larger plot. Meanwhile, police remain on the lookout for any clues that could explain what caused the blasts.
