A customer in Ambattur, Tamil Nadu, wants Aavin, the state’s popular dairy federation, to cut prices for good on everyday dairy products after the recent GST reduction. Venkatesh, who buys Aavin items regularly, says the company should lower the maximum retail price (MRP) right away, instead of just running short-term discount deals.
Venkatesh praised the central government for slashing GST rates on essential goods. But he argues that companies like Aavin need to pass those savings directly to shoppers through permanent price drops. “Temporary discounts can vanish anytime, so why not make the lower prices stick across all products?” he told reporters.
He points out that while Aavin has discounted some items since the GST cut, families need real, lasting relief on staples like milk, ghee, butter, paneer, and cheese. Milk prices have already come down a bit, but Venkatesh warns against hiking costs on other dairy essentials to balance the books. “If cheaper milk comes with pricier butter or paneer, it doesn’t help the average household at all,” he said.
Venkatesh calls for more transparency from Aavin to ensure GST benefits reach consumers fairly and stay that way. His push reflects what many Tamil Nadu shoppers want as the economy adapts to these tax changes—steady price relief on dairy products that families rely on daily.
This isn’t the first time Aavin faces heat over pricing. The BJP has slammed the dairy giant for not sharing the new GST perks with buyers, and PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss criticized the DMK government for dragging its feet on updates.
