Telangana: BRS leaders submit representation to RTC MD for immediate rollback of bus fare hike

In Hyderabad, BRS Working President K‑T Rama Rao and other party leaders visited the TSRTC Bus Bhavan on Thursday. They demanded the state reverse the latest jump in bus fares.

The leaders handed a written protest to the TSRTC Managing Director. Their complaint is simple: the state has raised fares five times in the last 20 months, while offering free rides for women but double the charge for men. They claim this unfair practice hurts ordinary citizens.

Another BRS figure, Harish Rao, told that the Telangana government is pushing a privatisation plan. He said the government just secured a ₹1,500‑crore loan two days ago by selling land at Jubilee and Hyderabad bus stations. The same government now plans to sell the Miyapur and Uppal workshops and all RTC assets. They also want to roll out electric buses across the state and raise fares during festivals and on toll tracks.

The fare hike is sudden: tickets were ₹30 until yesterday, and now they’re ₹40. This move has angered many commuters and BRS leaders. KTR accused the government of mismanaging the system and called it a “circus” rather than proper administration. He opened up about being put under house arrest, then released, and now police are arresting BRS activists who protest.

KTR said that those who sit and protest on buses are being arrested. He argued that if the free bus service is losing money, the government should cover the loss, not the passengers. He expressed sympathy for police officers who are caught up in the government’s decisions.

The BRS plans to stage a “Chalo Bus Bhavan” protest against the fare hike. KTR emphasised that the increase hurts common people and the middle class, and he called for an immediate rollback.

The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) lifted the minimum city bus fare by ₹10 from October 6. For City Ordinary, Metro Express, E‑Ordinary, and E‑Express services, passengers pay an extra ₹5 for the first three stages and an additional ₹10 from the fourth stage onwards. .
