Baloch leader flags atrocities by Pakistani forces in Balochistan on International Human Rights Day

Washington, Dec 10 (LatestNewsX) – Tara Chand, the president of the Baloch American Congress, seized the occasion of International Human Rights Day to call out what he describes as brutal abuses by Pakistan’s “radical Islamic army” in Balochistan.

On X he wrote: “Today is Human Rights Day around the world, and we want to remind the international community that Pakistan’s radical Islamic army has committed serious atrocities in Balochistan. Mahrang Baloch and the BYC leadership have been illegally imprisoned by military agencies for months without any charges. Nasreen Baloch, Mehjeen Baloch, Fauzia Baloch, and thousands of innocent Baloch students, lecturers, professors, doctors, and political workers are forcibly abducted and taken to secret torture camps.”

He added that there is no legal process and that the army treats the Baloch people like slaves, while exploiting the region’s natural resources and forcing the area into a strict religious regime.

Chand argued that, as the world remains largely silent, the people of Balochistan are mounting protests against these serious violations. He stressed: “These actions are serious violations of human rights. The oppression in Balochistan has reached its peak. The world must stand with the Baloch people, demand an end to these injustices, and call for the withdrawal of the Pakistani army from Balochistan.”

In the same breath, the human‑rights group Baloch Voice for Justice (BVJ) highlighted ongoing, systematic abuses by Pakistani authorities on International Human Rights Day. It warned that, “Despite global commitments to uphold human dignity, the people of Balochistan continue to face enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, arbitrary detentions and suppression of fundamental freedoms.”

“Those violations not only undermine the rule of law but also threaten regional stability and global human‑rights norms,” the body noted. It urged the United Nations to publicly acknowledge the crisis, demand accountability for disappearances and killings, and set up independent monitoring mechanisms that would investigate and report violations while supporting Baloch citizens in safeguarding their rights to life, liberty and free expression.
