Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy took charge on speeding up the state’s national highway projects during a key review meeting on Saturday. He urged officials to push forward land acquisition and compensation payments without further delays, focusing on a fair and humane approach for affected farmers.
Reddy met with top officials from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), the National Highways Department, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRT), the Roads and Buildings Department, and the Forest Department. He grilled them on hold-ups in approving new highway proposals and sanctions, stressing that minor issues shouldn’t stall progress. “Resolve challenges right away and get compensation out immediately,” he directed.
A big focus was the Regional Ring Road (RRR) North and South around Hyderabad. Reddy called out NHAI for popping up new hurdles during construction and told them to bundle all queries upfront. Officials promised to discuss issues and notify the government. Reddy pressed for quick approvals to kick off work on both stretches at once, and NHAI agreed to fast-track the RRR South alignment.
The chief minister also spotlighted the proposed 12-lane greenfield highway linking Bharat Future City to Amaravati and Machilipatnam. This major Telangana-Andhra Pradesh project would connect the two states’ capitals, cut the Hyderabad-Vijayawada distance by 70 kilometers, ease goods and passenger transport, and rake in huge revenues—more than any other national highway. Plans include a Dry Port, Logistics Park, and Industrial Park in Bharat Future City. Reddy reminded everyone that the AP Reorganisation Act guarantees this route and pushed for approvals under PM Gati Shakti or similar schemes.
He even requested a parallel railway line from Bengaluru to Shamshabad Airport and Amaravati, perfect for high-speed trains like Vande Bharat to turn profits.
On other fronts, Reddy demanded swift nods for an elevated corridor from Raviryal to Mannanur on the Hyderabad-Srisailam highway. This would help the thousands of devotees heading to the Srisailam temple, reservoir, and tiger reserve. He also ordered quick action on a pending National Green Tribunal (NGT) case to remove banyan trees along the Hyderabad-Manneguda road and approval for a new Hyderabad-Manchiryal-Nagpur highway to boost industrial parks and connectivity.
In a video call with district collectors, Reddy tackled delays on key routes like the Manchiryal-Warangal-Khammam-Vijayawada (NH-163G), Armur-Jagityal-Manchiryal (NH-63), Jagityal-Karimnagar (NH-563), and Mahabubnagar-Marikal-Deosugur (NH-167). Collectors flagged court cases and slow fund releases from land acquisition authorities. NHAI said they’d disburse funds once lists go online. Reddy warned against foot-dragging, ordering a report on all cases within a week for review with the Advocate General. He set a deadline: finish land acquisition and payments by October’s end. Negligent officials, from collectors to tahsildars, face removal, he cautioned.
Reddy didn’t hold back on forest clearance complaints either. Officials noted past violations from 2002-2022 blocking current approvals, but he pointed out those officers are gone. He pledged alternative land for forests and offered to meet Union Ministers Nitin Gadkari and Bhupender Yadav personally if needed. On wildlife rules applying even in non-wildlife zones, Reddy said the state would cover mitigation costs and told forest chief Dr. Suvarna to speed up clearances.
Finally, he greenlit two acres in Hyderabad for an NHAI office, with officials scouting spots right away. Key attendees included Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao, and NHAI’s Anil Chaudhary. This push signals Telangana’s drive to revamp infrastructure and connect communities faster.
