Nawazuddin Siddiqui talks about his journey from blink-and-miss cameo in ‘Munna Bhai M.B.B.S.’ to leading roles

On December 11, LatestNewsX sent reporters from Mumbai to spotlight the career of Hindi‑film actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui, remarking on how his path through cinema has been truly inspiring. From early supporting parts in movies like Sarfarosh, Shool and Jungle, to a small role that almost slipped past the audience in the Sanjay Dutt‑starrer Munna Bhai M.B.B.S., the actor has now comfortably taken on leading projects. When asked about his journey, Siddiqui summed it up as a “good and fun” ride.
Speaking to LatestNewsX, the actor reflected on his growth:
“People have seen my graph over the years, but what matters most to me is how I see it. I am happier when I do films like “Raat Akeli Hai”, where there is experimentation.” He added, “As an actor, you must keep exploring different forms. Recently, Thama*l was released, and I believe I have done differently in different movies.”
Citing his co‑star Chitrangada Singh as a model of versatility, Siddiqui remarked, “Look at Chitrangda, she has done films like ‘Aatma’, ‘Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi’, and ‘Housefull’, all completely different spaces, and that’s exactly what actors should do.” He further emphasized that an actor should never limit himself to one niche and should continually experiment and discover new facets of his talent.
Looking ahead, Siddiqui will lead in the upcoming shadow‑laden crime thriller Raat Akeli Hai: The Bansal Murders, directed by Honey Trehan and written by Smita Singh. He will play Inspector Jatil Yadav, a character who returns to the darkness with sharper instincts and relentless drive to uncover the truth. The film also features Chitrangada Singh, Radhika Apte, Deepti Naval, Ila Arun Bajpai, Revathy Asha Kelluni, Rajat Kapoor, Sanjay Kapoor, Priyanka Setia, Shridhar Dubey, and Akhilendra Mishra. Raat Akeli Hai: The Bansal Murders will be available for streaming on Netflix on 19 December.
