Six Maoist Members Surrender in Telangana’s Bhadradri Kothagudem District
In a big step towards peace in Telangana’s tribal areas, six members of the banned CPI(Maoist) group surrendered to the police on Thursday in Bhadradri Kothagudem district. This news comes straight from local police officials, highlighting the success of efforts to bring Maoists back to a normal life.
The surrender happened as part of Operation Cheyutha, a special program run by the Bhadradri Kothagudem police along with CRPF battalions 81 and 141. The goal? To boost development and welfare for tribal communities in these remote regions. These six individuals chose to leave violence behind after hearing about the helpful schemes from the Telangana government and police. They all come from Gommuguda village in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district and belong to the Guthikoya tribe. They worked with the Pamed Area Committee in the South Bastar Division of the Maoist group.
Meet the people who surrendered:
- Madakam Deva (alias Dinesh), 40, an Area Committee Member and commander of the Usoor Local Operation Squad.
- Madavi Joga, 21, a Party Member from the Pamed Local Operation Squad.
- Podium Deva, 42, a Militia Member from the Palagudem RPC.
- Madakam Idumas, 42, a Militia Member from the Palagudem RPC.
- Madakam Muka, 23, a Militia Member from the Palagudem RPC.
- Madivi Itha, 26, a Militia Member from the Palagudem RPC.
Right away, the police handed each of them ₹25,000 as initial support, making it a total of ₹1.5 lakh. They’ll get more rehabilitation money based on their ranks once they share their Aadhaar and bank details.
Operation Cheyutha has made real waves since it started in January 2025. So far, 320 Maoist members have surrendered, including high-ranking ones like 4 DVCMs, 22 ACMs, 41 Party Members, and many militia and RPC members. Everyone who’s come forward now enjoys proper rehabilitation support.
Just a week ago, on September 13, 2025, a top Maoist leader, Potula Padmavathi (aliases Kalpana, Mainakka, Sujatakka), gave herself up to the Telangana DGP. She received ₹25 lakh on the spot as part of her rehab package. The Telangana government and police are calling out to other Maoists: Drop the guns, leave the violence, and join the mainstream for a better life.
The state is all in on improving tribal areas. They’ve built better roads, schools, hospitals, clean drinking water supplies, and electricity in these spots. Police teams are pushing hard to deliver top-notch education and healthcare even in the farthest corners.
In their message to tribal folks, officials say: Support democracy for real, lasting progress. If fear or loyalty keeps you tied to Maoists, your areas won’t see any growth. Democratic governments bring change, and our forces are working non-stop for peace and development in tribal regions. It’s time for everyone to choose peace over conflict.
