Rangareddy, Telangana – A tragic shooting in Texas has claimed the life of Pole Chandrashekar, an Indian student who moved to the United States to finish his master’s degree. The incident occurred in Denton, near Dallas, where Chandrashekar was reportedly working part‑time at a gas station.
Chandrashekar’s family, who sent him to the U.S. in 2023, received the heartbreaking news from a friend’s parents. His brother, speaking to , said the family has spent a lot of money for his education and now wants help from the Indian government to bring his body home to Hyderabad. Another brother added that Chandrashekar was a dental graduate from India and had just finished his postgraduate studies in Dallas when he was shot. He urged the central and state governments to take action against the gunman and to repatriate his remains.
His mother, Sunitha, shared her grief in an interview. “My son became a dental doctor in the U.S., finished his post‑graduation, and then the shooting happened,” she said. “We learned about his death from his friend’s parents. We need the government to ensure the safety of Indian students abroad and to bring our son’s body back home.”
The shooting has drawn the attention of Indian officials. Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLA and ex‑Telangana minister T. Harish Rao posted on X calling the death “tragic” and expressing deep condolences to the family. He urged the destination authorities to act quickly to return the mortal remains to their hometown.
The incident arrives amid ongoing concerns for Indian students in Texas. Last month, Chandra Mouli Bob Nagamallaiah, an Indian motel manager in Dallas, was beheaded on the street during a confrontation. These events have spurred calls for better protection and support for the Indian diaspora in the United States.
