‘Their love is immortal, others is love jihad’: Uddhav Thackeray slams BJP on interfaith relationships

Pune, Oct 4 – Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray slammed the BJP at a press conference, accusing the ruling party of using social issues to win votes while ignoring real governance problems. He lambasted the BJP for double‑talk on interfaith relationships, saying it brands love between different faiths as “immortal love” when done by the BJP but calls it “love jihad” if done by others – a point that struck many.

Thackeray also criticized BJP’s selective Hindu‑right agenda, claiming the party stokes tensions between Hindus and Muslims only when it benefits the polls. He pointed out that BJP’s Saugat‑e‑Modi kits were sent to 32 lakh Muslims, yet the party still charges itself with pro‑Hindutva ideology. “Why does the BJP talk about Hindutva and then drop it when it needs allies?” he asked.

The Shiv Sena leader called out RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, suggesting the organization’s century‑long mistakes are now a national concern. He alleged that the BJP, which links to the RSS, is turning India into a “Hindu Pakistan” by prioritizing authoritarian control over inclusive growth.

On local matters, Thackeray grilled Prime Minister Narendra Modi for neglecting Maharashtra’s flood crisis. He accused the central government of focusing on Bihar elections while ignoring farmers hit by heavy rains. He demanded an immediate crop‑loan waiver and financial aid of 50,000 rupees per hectare for affected farmers.

Thackeray said a white paper exposing “BJP corruption” would be issued after the upcoming BMC elections. He expressed support for climate‑activist Sonam Wangchuk, blaming the centre for his arrest and the BJP for labeling him “anti‑national.”

He also hinted at a future alliance between Shiv Sena and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena to promote Marathi pride. On the BMC elections, he said the party would run with Congress and NCP partners in Pune and beyond, while those who wish to fight separately can do so.

The remarks highlight Maharashtra’s political tension, the push for farmer relief, and growing scrutiny of the BJP’s governance record.
