Man and teen boy stabbed in separate subway attacks in Midtown: cops

On Saturday, four knife incidents shook New York City’s subway system, prompting police to begin an intense search for a suspect.

The first attack occurred around 5 p.m. on a southbound 6 train at Grand Central Station. Police said a 38‑year‑old man was stabbed in the torso. He was taken to Bellevue Hospital and is now in stable condition. Just over an hour later, at 6:11 p.m., another assault took place on the ACE line. A 15‑year‑old boy was slashed in the arm by a teenager wearing a brown jacket at the 42nd‑Street stop. The younger victim was rushed to Mount Sinai‑Morningside Hospital; he remains in stable condition.

At 7 p.m., a third victim— a 23‑year‑old man—was waiting on a northbound 1 train at 96th & Broadway when a stranger plunged a knife into his back after an argument. The blade was recovered at the scene, and the man was later admitted to the same hospital, listed as stable and likely to survive.

Police are looking for a suspect described as light‑skinned, slim, and wearing all‑gray clothing, including a beanie. He allegedly fled to street level immediately after the attack. The same description applies to the individual involved in the Grand Central incident.

“This is the fourth knife attack on New York City’s subway system this month,” a police source said. The city’s violence monitoring organization notes that overall transit crime has dropped to its lowest level in 16 years, a 15 % decline from 2019.

In related news, Gov. Kathy Hochul announced a $77 million pledge to keep NYPD officers patrolling subways in 2026. “Subway crime has become the lowest it’s been in over a decade and a half,” she told reporters Thursday.
