In Chennai, the Tamil Nadu Assembly will open on Tuesday for a brief four‑day meeting, Speaker M. Appavu said Monday.
After a Business Advisory Committee session that brought together members from both the treasury and the opposition, the Speaker outlined the schedule. The Assembly will start with obituary references for people who recently died, including victims of the Karur stampede, former Nagaland Governor L. Ganesan, veteran CPI leader Sudhakar Reddy, and senior IAS officer Beela.
The first day will also carry a condolence resolution for Valparai MLA Amul Kandasamy before the house adjourns.
From October 15 to 17, legislators will talk about supplementary grant demands for the 2025‑26 fiscal year. Each day kicks off at 9:30 a.m., beginning with Question Hour and then moving to budget debates. “We’ll finish with the government’s reply on the estimates,” Appavu said.
Though short, the session matters. It lets the government seek legislative approval for extra spending that has surfaced during the year. The opposition is likely to raise issues such as the Karur tragedy, rising prices, and law‑and‑order concerns.
This marks the first Assembly sitting after the Karur stampede, which claimed several lives at an event organized by Tamil superstar‑turned‑politician Vijay. The debate is expected to feature sharp exchanges between the treasury and opposition as parties gear up for the upcoming political season.
The Assembly Secretariat has arranged everything for a smooth session, which will be run by Speaker Appavu and attended by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, his cabinet colleagues, and legislators from all parties.
