TN CM Stalin directs statewide reading of preamble on Constitution Day

Chennai, Nov 26 — LatestNewsX — Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister M.K. Stalin announced that every government office, school, college and autonomous body in the state will read the Preamble to the Constitution of India aloud at 11 a.m. on November 26 as part of the Constitution Day celebrations.
The move is intended to reinforce devotion to constitutional principles, democratic values and the spirit of federalism.
In his directive, the chief minister noted that reciting the Preamble reminds people of the core ideals that define India as a sovereign, socialist, secular and democratic republic.
He also highlighted the renowned jurist N.A. Palkhivala’s description of the Preamble as the “identity card of the Constitution”, underscoring its essential character and aspirations.
The administration has urged schools, colleges and other educational institutions to host a range of contests—elocution, seminars, debates and quizzes—focused on constitutional literacy, with the aim of deepening students’ understanding of rights, duties and values.
Officials said these activities are meant to nurture a culture of democratic involvement among the youth.
Emphasizing Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s legacy, the Tamil Nadu government stressed that the Constitution remains a “noble creation” that encapsulates equality, justice, fraternity, and liberty.
Highlighting its continued commitment to state autonomy, respect for federal principles, and protection of fundamental rights, the government also underscored Article 15(3), which empowers the state to take special measures for the advancement of women and children.
The statement reiterated that these constitutional guarantees continue to guide Tamil Natar’s socially‑just and inclusive governance model.
Nationwide celebrations will take place in New Delhi where Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to join a special Constitution Day event at the Central Hall of Samvidhan Sadan at 11 a.m. on November 26.
The President, Vice‑President, Lok Sabha Speaker and Members of Parliament from both Houses will attend, with the President leading the nation in reading the Preamble.
Both state‑level and national events aim to reaffirm India’s constitutional spirit and the collective duty to uphold the democratic values written in the supreme law of the land.
