Chennai, Dec 11 (LatestNewsX) – The AIADMK has opened the door for party members who wish to run in the forthcoming Legislative Assembly polls in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Kerala. Nominations will be accepted from 15 December to 23 December.

According to an official statement by General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS), the party’s nomination forms will be made available at headquarters from 12 noon on 15 December, and thereafter from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day of the period. Candidates are to pick up the forms in person, fill out all required information clearly, and submit them before the deadlines.

EPS says that this step marks a crucial part of the AIADMK’s preparations for the 2026 Assembly elections, which the party hopes will represent a significant political resurgence.

The party was founded in 1972 by M.G. Ramachandran (MGR) after a split from the DMK, and quickly grew into one of Tamil Nadu’s strongest political forces. Under MGR and later J. Jayalalithaa, the AIADMK dominated state politics for decades, introducing wide‑spread welfare programmes that cemented its mass support. Its governance style and electoral success made it the main challenger to the DMK’s two‑party dominance in the state.

Following Jayalalithaa’s death in 2016, the AIADMK went through a turbulent era marked by factionalism, leadership disputes and shifting alliances. EPS eventually secured the party’s leadership and the AIADMK remained the principal opposition, but it suffered defeats in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the 2021 state polls and the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. With the DMK back in power, the AIADMK has been reorganising its structure, reviving its grassroots network, sharpening its anti‑DMK narrative and tightening its alliance strategy.

EPS has repeatedly claimed that Tamils are disillusioned with the DMK government and that the AIADMK‑led coalition will win decisively in 2026. At the recent general council meeting, EPS was also announced as the Chief Minister candidate of the AIADMK‑BJP alliance. This renewed campaign comes at a time when actor Vijay’s TVK could act as a potential political disruptor.

Against this backdrop, the announcement of nomination dates signals the AIADMK’s determination to field strong candidates and regain momentum ahead of a high‑stakes battle across all three regions.
