Punjab is set to become the first Indian state to launch a unified citizen portal that lets residents access almost every government service from one place.
State officials said the portal will go live in about six months, giving people a faster, more accountable way to get services online or through mobile. Residents can use the web site, a mobile app, Sewa Kendra kiosks, or even WhatsApp to connect with the system.
The Department of Good Governance and IT has signed a Rs 13‑crore agreement with a software firm to design, build, run and maintain the portal. The project is part of a broader plan to move around 600 currently‑offline services online.
Key features include auto‑fetching documents. Once a citizen uploads a document—like a photo ID or birth certificate—it will be automatically applied to future requests, so users won’t have to re‑upload it each time. The system also uses AI‑driven workflow engines to speed decision‑making and reduce waiting times.
According to Minister Aman Arora, the portal will act as a single, digital gateway for all Punjab government services, making it easier for citizens to navigate between departments without hopping across multiple websites. With 848 services listed under the Punjab Transparency and Accountability in Delivery of Public Service Act of 2018, and 236 already live on the connect portal, the new platform is expected to benefit around one crore applicants every year—all from the convenience of home.
