In Agartala on December 7, Tripura’s Chief Minister Manik Saha announced that the state will push hard to build a golf course, aiming to boost both infrastructure and tourism in the region. Following the opening of the Bharat Golf Mahotsav, organized by the Golf Federation of India together with the Border Security Force (BSF), the CM explained that launching golf would spark a surge in eco‑tourism, create jobs for young people, and support the “Nasha Mukt” Tripura vision.
Later, he posted on X that the Tripura Open Golf Tournament at Shalbagan—part of the GFI Tour 2025—was a joint effort between the Tripura Golf Association and the TUSKER BSF Golf Club. “Hosting such a remarkable tournament in Tripura not only enriches our sporting culture but also inspires the younger generation to embrace the elegance, discipline and competitive spirit of golf, helping the sport gain greater popularity across the state,” CM Saha said. The event takes place at the BSF Tripura frontier headquarters’ golf complex near Agartala.
IG Aloke Kumar Chakraborty of the BSF confirmed that Tripura’s natural terrain is ideal for golf and noted that when other cities built golf courses, property values grew significantly. He added that luxury golf tourism could lift hospitality, enhance transport services and energise the local handicraft market. The CM, IG Chakraborty and Youth and Sports Affairs Minister Tinku Roy toured the expansive course.
GFI General Secretary Aryavir Arya mentioned that the Bharat Golf Mahotsav, the nationwide GFI Tour 2025, kicks off on September 17 this year—coinciding with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday—and wraps up on January 12, the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda. This large‑scale program unites India through golf, sustainability, education, and social causes, featuring events in 100 cities such as tournaments, tree‑planting drives, marathons, and campaigns promoting “Make in India” and “Viksit Bharat.”
